HOW TO: Xbones to Fatboy Rear Fender Swap
#61
Thanks Skeez!
Thanks so much for the perfect instructions! Just finished my rear fender. After I installed it, I noticed a dent in the tip of the fender, DAMN IT! I ordered it brand new, don't remember a dent, dealer said prove it came like that. Pounded it a little, can hardly notice. Love the new look. Thanks again Skeez!

Here is a photo of my conversion, I shaved the fender and filled in the light indentation and moved the taillight and license plate to the axel. Was really pretty easy and looks much better!

Here is the main reason my Bones is going in the direction that it is. After I bought it and my wife swore she'd never want anything to do with riding it she now regularly goes on long trips with me. As such I wanted to set up the bike to make her far more comfortable then can be done with a stock Crossbones.

Hey skeez, Im getting ready to do my rear fender this weekend, I had my fatboy stock tailight hole welded and smoothed over in the body shop, My bike is black ice denim (flat blue/purple) Im useing a replica 1938 to 46 beehive tailight I found on ebay. It has 3 wires, ground, running and brake I see you mentioned a circuit board in the stock bones light assm. I was going use a test light to figure out and match what wire lit what and solder and heat shrink wrap them. Also will not having the board create issue`s with the turn signals.I hope this will work I spent the extra cash having the light housing sand blasted and painted the same color as the tins (the same with the front fender light). I was laughing at your old lady purse comment but i am putting those bags on my bike (no mops LOL), I have the detachable solo rack and docking hardware on the bike now, the f/b and bones fenders have the holes pre drilled but I have to drill through the outter fender strut where the red refector is (Ive already removed the the reflectors) Any help would be great! Thanks, Doug in Maryland.

Why do you have to drill a hole in your strut covers? If you are just swapping a 200mm rear Fatboy fender for that of the stock Crossbones then it should be pretty much a direct swap as far as the fender struts go. What are the holes that you are drilling going to be used for?

If you are planning on running turn signals along with the Bee Hive (great light choice) and you are ditching the circuit board then you will have to similarly splice your turn signals directly into your wiring harness the way you intend to do for your tail light. The circuit board gives the main wiring harness a place to connect and then provides individual connections for each of the rear lights. Getting rid of it is not detrimental so long as you know how to wire each light directly to the wiring harness. The wires for the tail light I believe are black, blue and orange/yellow stripe. The turn signals are both black and purple.
