HOW TO: Xbones to Fatboy Rear Fender Swap
#91
Is that one of those raw replica fenders you can get on eBay? If so, how is the fit? I briefly contemplated one because of the price but I wasn't sure how it held up to a stock fender. Also, looking at those replica fenders on eBay, I noticed that they don't have this extra plate on the inner sides that I assume strengthen the walls of the fender where it bolts to the struts.
Please show us photos of your set up with the pillion on it.
I went with this one because I wanted a smooth fender without any indent for a light. The fit is perfect. It does have an internal brace near the bottom to add stability. I'll post more pics as I go, but I'm really taking my time. I'm working on the tail light placement and wiring now.
The pillion fits exactly like stock. I'll post a pic of this as soon as I get one.

Below is the one I saw on eBay. I actually double checked the sides on a stock Harley fender and the plates that I was talking about aren't plates at all. They are some sort of heavier foam material and the fender bolts do not pass through these PADS. Not sure what they are for. The only thing I can think of is that they are some sort of dampening material for road noise or debris...

Looks good. Do the two rubber feet on the front of the pillion rest on the fender surface?
By all means, bro. This is the perfect place for you to mention your fender for sale. I'm sorry I didn't suggest it when I was inquiring about your fender and tail light. And thanks again for dealing with me on some of your parts!

Hows the progress on your scoot?
Wanted to ask you another question about your rear fender...
I know it came without a tail light hole or tag holes but did it come with the holes for the struts pre-drilled or did you have to drill those holes in?
I am having a hard time making that determination from the website. One photo shows that it has the side holes but another shows no side holes.
Thanks,
Skeez

Well after about a year of having the new to me fender sitting on the shelf I put it on. I got it used off of letgo for $100. It had about a dozen layers of paint on it, took a lot of elbow grease to get it down to the bare metal. I welded in a patch over the hole for the stock tail light and the holes for the license plate bracket. I just rattle caned the primer and paint for now, I'm going to get the front fender and then get them both professionally painted to match the tank. I welded on a model A tail light bracket and used the Ford tail light. I also just made these pipes using the stock headpipes. Had to cut and weld it all up to get it to fit the way I wanted it to. I'm probably going to leave the sissy bar and rear seat off.
Big thanks to Skeezemachine for this thread.
One thing I want to add is I didn't know about getting the rear inside mounting brakes for the fatboy so I used the stock crossbones ones and wire clips. I just had to grind about a quarter inch off the ends where they hit the fender.
