I humbly disagree with the looks great part, but I am glad to see that there is an alternative to the short lived MC tires. My fears lean towards the questions like "does it heat up as quick as an MC tire?" "does it get real hard in the winter like a car tire?" ... I read the article and didn't see answers regarding those issues.

My comtrac runs about 114 degrees in the summer heat 2up. The front; not so good, and the back one has the load on it. Had zero problems in the winter, but I'm sure that there IS a certain effect you might notice if you're pushing the envelope, but not really. I ride all year, down to 20F.

Furcifer: Not being a *****, but if you'd shown up for one of our rides on that Dunnie, we would have had to disqualify you for the ride, as many riding
clubs would have. That tire looks great; I can see the traction! Hey, you really didn't have to dismantle the whole bike to get the tire in there...

just mounted up the Austone on the fatty & just put on a few miles

THIS TIRE IS FREAKING AWESOME !!!!!!!!!

absolutely NO COMPARISON to the Comtrac,, like apples to oranges

the Austone is a 100,000 mile Taxi tire that is surprisingly soft round tread & sticky, ( no hard squared edges ) & handles like my Avon Venoms ( that would be absolutely shot at 5K )

Quad,, you need to ditch the comtrac & mount the Austone,,, you'll love it

Is this the Chinese($143) or French($212) model?
My Comtrac is now worn out at 22000mi on a 02 Fatboy.

I'll be going to the Austone if I can ever get the Commie to wear out! Still looking great at somewhere around 15k or so. Lost my other computer to a baaaaad virus, with my records.
Still running 36 lbs, still pulling my camp trailer, still tearin' up the twisties!

@turtle2; do you have pics of the worn Comtrac?
Curios to see the wear pattern.

I've got over 9k on mine and still looks relatively new.
Been riding at 34psi and all is well but still a little loose in tight turns at high speed (70+ mph).
Think I'll try 36psi and see how that feels.

Down to the wear bars in the center 1/16"....edges at 1/8".
Ran the gamut of press. for lots of different miles, so I don't know what one setting would be for this wear pattern. I settled on 34 to 35 psi.
The wobble I had was caused by a worn out swing arm bearing..no way to tell without removing the tire and shocks to detect it. I'm at 82000 miles.

Newb here looking to go darkside... damn tired of replacing a $300 tire every 10 months.

So, can I use my stock rim (heritage classic 07, spoked rim) and the 175/70/16 Vredestein Comtrac? With innertube?

Besides the tire, what other expenses are involved?
