Default Vance & Hines Baffle modification

I have an '08 Heritage Softail that I bought with Vance & Hines true duals on it. It was extremely loud for my liking, so I ordered the quiet baffles from V&H, but they barely quieted it at all. I read on-line about more fiberglass taming the sound, so I bought some stove gasket tape (a carbon coated fiberglass) from Ace Hardware and wrapped it around the baffles and then replaced half of the fiberglass batting that came with the baffle. It took it down at least 3 more decibels and now it sounds great. Still loud, but I wont get the police called when I go through my neighborhood. I added some picture to show how I did it.
It also runs very hot from it being lean on fuel. I am doing a stage 1 upgrade on the air cleaner and a power commander III fuel management system from Fuel Moto (talked to Jamie). They are programming the PCIII with a map specifically designed for my pipes and stage 1 upgrade. The bike will be running in top shape soon and now sounds fantastic. Saved ~$400 from what the stealer wanted to do.

Be interested in knowing how long that fiberglass will hold up. Stuff that came with my Rush slipons disintegrates from the heat after about 3k or so.

I was thinking of doing something along that line also. Have you gone for any rides? Do you notice any differance in power?

i bought the high heat muffler packing from ebay for about 8 and it holds up very well. I make my own baffles. you can get it quieter if you use the drain plug ideal that was on the forum.

Jimmers, I will let you know... it is suppose to take 1000 degrees as its made for stove pipes and cast iron oven gaskets.

Mike,
Good idea on the under $50 section.... I am guessing based on the description that i read on line with correlations to different decibel levels. It is quieter, but I don't have a sound meter. I like it loud, but the V&H duals were almost obnoxious...and I have neighbors I like.

SF,
I haven't noticed any power difference, but I still haven't optimized the bike yet. Just ordered the Stage 1 upgrade and the PCIII with a customized map from Fuel Moto USA. I would highly recommend these guys if you need to optimize performance. I should have them both installed by this weekend.

Call V&H and ask for their other quiet baffles. They don't sell them online (no idea why). They're the ones they use in the Double Barrel Long pipes that I have on my Deluxe. They're about $40 I think? They're much quieter and still give the great Harley sound.
