Update: Weird Noise - Could it be octane knock???
It was the crapola BP gas that got me. I usually buy my gas locally at a Phillips 66 station and never had problems. I ran low on gas while out of town and got a tank full of BP Premium (Premium crap they must have sucked off the top of the gulf). Anyway, I stopped at Autozone and got some octane booster, then to P66 and filled it up with their premium. I still had over a quarter tank of crap BP gas in it. I drove it mellow for about a half hour and then started getting on it again. The ping is 99% gone. If I really listen for it and crack it hard I think I can hear a slight ping, but I still have whats left of the crap gas in there. Once I run this tank empty and fill up again it should be as good as new.
I hate it when I think my bike has something wrong with it!!!!!

I'd have to agree that if you put in premium which was at least 91 octane, then you probably just got a bad batch or it had been there too long. It's the 85 octane you have to use when you take a ride through the dessert towns that gets you. I always keep a small bottle of octane booster with me now. Saved my bike a couple of times already. Glad to hear you fixed it and it wasn't a big deal. Now go empty the tank again!

Thankjs for all the advice guys. I did get a bottle of octane boost and since they are made for car gas tanks I only poured about a quarter of the bottle in and I am keeping the rest in my swingarm bag in case this happens again. I'm surprised I got bad gas at this BP station as it is in the Quad Cities and on a busy street. They should be selling plenty of premium.

Wherever you buy, it is always best to try to use a station that has turnover, though.
