Okay...here is how I measured. Completely stock bones suspension, on the sidestand, reproduction WLA 1945 seat with 2" scissor springs.
I pulled on the bars toward the lean to take out any suspension compression. I placed the corner of a level on top and at the deepest part of the seat in the center where your butt would hit, made sure the level was plumb and then measured to the floor from there. I'm right at 27"

Now...I'm assuming Daddyknuck measured to the bottom side of the lowest edge hangover of the seat considering his measurement was 24 3/8...perhaps he can confirm. I measured this way and came up with 23 1/2.

See my attached very crude diagram...

That's the way I did it. Seems reasonable because I think my springs make the seat sit up a little higher.

+1 on the dremel to the ribs of the stock seat pan. I had to do that to get the fuel pack in there.

I was surprised but I agree with most on here, my less padded seat is more comfortable. Just did a five day trip and it was better than the stock seat.

I'm going to Sturgis in 2 weeks and I swapped back and forth between my '47 accessory seat and the Army seat. Not even close. The old seat is much better. Less cushion but much better support. I have the local hot rod interior shop covering my pillion and sissy bar pad to match. $75. I think it will give a different look to the bike.
