Default Sticky Throttle

I have recently bought my first Harley - a 2007 Heritage - and have been riding for about a week. Today I noticed the throttle will stay in place if I push it inward and will free when pulled away. It remains in the position as if it were some kind of cruise control. At first I thought I had a sticky throttle, but considering the proficiency at which the throttle remains, I am having doubts about this being a faulty throttle. I just want clarification. Is this normal? Or should I look into fixing it?

On the underside of the throttle housing there is a big star like screw that puts tension on the throttle try playing with this a little.

What Jed said. Loosen that star wheel which adjusts the tension on throttle. Definitely not something you want for normal riding.

your throttle and idle cables may need adjusting. mine was doing this until i had my 10k service done. may be too much slack in the cables. and +1 on the star thing.

all the above and one more. if the grips are aftermarket they may have left out or misaligned the insert.

You could also try lubing your cables. I use dri slide. I woudl adjsut the cables and lube. Make sure the throttle snaps back with the bars turned to lock both ways as well.

Drew, What do you use to lube inside the throttle grip itself? The manual says graphite, but I don't know if it's dry graphite, or a graphite grease, or oil with graphite in it?

Well, I loosened up the star screw on the bottom and every thing is moving freely. I still may lube the cables just for preventive maintenance. Again, thanks for all the good info, gents.

All good suggestions. I use the Harley Needle lube to do my cables. Works great.
