Default High Altitude Question

I moved from Southern California to Denver a little bit ago. After getting here I noticed that my 2003 Heritage Springer FLSTSI started running a lot warmer than it did while in SoCal. Does the altitude affect the running temp because of lower O2 levels? Do I need to have it retuned for this altitude? I would welcome any thoughts on this. Nothing else was changed during the move.

You don't have to but retuning wil allow the bike to run it's best at a mile high. You probably have noticed a little less power also as a result of the thinner air.

higher up you go the less oxygen there is so the richer your mixter. if you are a carb then rejetting might be needed. if ECM then maybe a map, maybe...all depends on your setup.

It is EFI. I figured it would probably need a map. Local shop has a dyno setup but the person I talked to on the phone wasn't real helpful. Thought I would throw the question out to this forum and see what people's thoughts were before I took the bike in to be looked at.

richer usually means cooler.. try looking at Ur plugs also see what color they are..
search and U'll find more on the higher altitude issues.
seem from what I just read on it Ur EFI should adjust fairly good for it, of course with less power.

As was said it would run cooler because of less air. You may find that a remap may help with the running but it may really run warm at lower areas.

I have been so High up that guys on carbed bikes were havingt a hard time of it. But mine with fuel Inj ran just fine.

Go down and talk with Mike at Hogley on Broadway between Evans and Illif on the East side of the street. He will give you the straight info if anyone will in the city. Welcome to Denver and the altitude. They have experience with Power Commanders and such and may know how to help you out.
