I appreciate the help gentleman. It is a big decision to make. But from what I am gathering, the only real difference is the 07 has the 96ci vs. the 88 for the 06 and the 07 has a 6 speed and the 06 has a 5 speed.
This is helpful and hopefully will pick it up this week!!!!

Also, I have heard that the EVO motor can be a little sluggish, when comparing it to the 88. Is this true? if so, does a stage 1 kit pretty much fix the problem?

06 was a transition year and has several 06 only parts, that may prove difficult to get in years to come...get the 07

I wouldnt say the EVO is sluggish but I have to ask what does it have to do with the 2 bikes you are considering? They are both Twin Cam.

Yeah and that silver engine is hard to keep looking good. After a few years it get's looking bad. Get the black engine.

Definitely the Custom. That 06 Standard was the ugly gray motor, not to mention an 88ci, and the five speed tranny. The 07 Custom has the 96 ci and the black motor and the six speed tranny. So what if it has 5k more miles. It's a Harley. They are easy to maintain now days. Just stay up on your maintenance and keep her clean. Trust me if you get the Standard you will regret it, espcially when you learn more about harleys.

Definitely get the custom. I have a 06 Springer. The black and chrome engine looks great. I didn't care for the gray standard Softail motor. I looked like a solid chunk of aluminum.

The 07 Custom does have the 96" engine, which is nice too. I don't miss the six speed, but I suppose that is nice too.

The 96 ci and the 6 speed are just the highlights. There were 300 or so changes to the engine too. The better oil pump and hydraulic cam tensioners are a couple more of the highlights.

One downside I've heard of is the 07 has a higher rate of crankshaft slippage but the truth is anything after 2002 when they stopped using the Timken crank bearings and lowered their quality are prone to this slippage. Just wanted to throw that in so you have as much info to work with as we can give. We are probably hearing more about the 07's slipping right now because they are the oldest of the TC96's not counting the 06 Dyna's.

Go with the 07 Custom. The pro's far outweigh the con's.
