Default New grips..how much play in the throttle

Hi guys,

I picked up my bike last Sept. brand new and I had new grips put on. I do not remember how much play I had in the throttle grip. With the bike off...I have around a 1/2 -3/4 inch play..in other words it moves back n forth that much....is it suppose to be a bit "tighter" I do not remember how much "play" it had when I picked up the bike...

it may have been the same...but I just want to make sure with the other members that did change their grips and how much "play" you have in them

I can't pull them off...I was just wondering about the back and forth movement!

Thanks alot
Hog

my 07 doesnt have any play. if it does its very minor. are you saying that you have to turn the throttle 3/4 of an inch before it does anything? if so I would say that your cables need adjusting.

Like a 1/4" at the most on mine. This is after I changed out the grips, and was the same with factory grips.

I adjusted mine recently and, if I remember correctly, the service manual indicates there should be little to no play (in the idle cable) when the bars are turned fully to the right. On my bike, this left some play (about a 1/4 inch) when the front wheel was turned straight. The throttle cable should be adjusted to just touch the cam stop when the wheel is straight forward.

Just changed bars on mine and did the cable adjustments. Pretty straightforward. The manual outlines it out very easily.

Only little snag I had (maybe not snag, but seemed weird), was adjusted throttle straight ahead (works great), then turned full right and adjusted idle till it just touches spring.

Only thing was at left and center, throttle would snap closed like a champ, but at full right it didn't want to "snap back", just SSLOOWWLY returned to idle. The next step in book says to adjust it back looser until it returns to idle.

I did and it all works fine, but I have a little slack behind the A/C on that cable.

ALL THAT being said, I have almost zero slack in my grip. Maybe when you changed 'em, a cable slipped off the guide?
