Default better cam chain tensioners??

I have 45 000 kms on my 04 Heritage

From what I hear / read...I should have the cam chain tensioners replaced soon.

If I get the tensioners replaced with new ones.....will they last longer?

Are the new tensioners better made to last better?

thanks for any comments,

The MOCO makes an upgrade for the tensioners that actually works by hydraulic pressure from the oil pump. Page 493 of the 2010 HD catalog.

The upgraded version includes the newer cam plate and hydraulic oil pump and has proven to wear nothing like the old ones. The shoes are made of a different material and not spring loaded as well.

I may be mistaken, but I think the MOCO changed over to the hydraulic system in 06 or 07.

So about $450 for the kit. Anything else needed? How many hours labor involved?

The 06 Dyna's got this setup first and then all bikes in 07. If you are going into the cam chest to replace the inner cam bearings with Torrington B 148's, replace the bearings on the cam plate and a gasket for the cam cover. Also, it depends if you want to cut the pushrods and skip taking the rocker boxes off and install ez install pushrods or what. If youa re going into the cam chest you might as well put soem different cams in, that is what I did and I sure am happy I did. I was quoted some insane amount of money for labor so I jsut called up a buddy and we did it at my house. You will need a blind cam bearing puller/installer for the bearings and a press to press the cams back into the cam plate...or you can use the freezer/oven method. I bought a press at harbor freight for 80 bucks so now I can do everyone's cams for them.

You could always go gear driven cams and never have to worry about the chain tensioner plus benefit from the TQ gains
