Default Rear Tire Wear

I have roughly 3000 miles on my '09 Softail and the rear tire is worn down to about 1/8" tread left in the center. Is this normal? Seems like it's wearing pretty quick. How many miles should I expect to get from a stock tire? I had 13,000 on my Ultra and the tire still looked great. Did HD go cheap on the Softail tires?

Unless you are doing burn outs, it is not normal, I just returned from a 3000 mile trip and tire looks new. It's a Metzler, but still... I've had rears wear from anywhere between 8 and 11000 on Metz and Dunlops

I have put my 4 on my 07 Ultra. I usely ride loaded. I am at 25K miles now. I have averaged 8K on my rears. I got 22k out of my front.
There are a number of variables in tire wear. Loaded weight, driving(acceleration & braking) styles, air pressure. If the tire is overinflated it will wear more in the center.
I am seriously about getting a car tire and put on the rear of my Ultra. I have read a little about it on a heavier bike and the car tire seems to last longer. However, I want to do more research on the issue.
Hope I offered something you can use.

I'm changing mine out at 7000 miles, '09' Heritage. I've got a July trip that will be 1500 miles or so and don't want to push it. Tire wear is different between riders. I don't ride double and feel that wasn't enough. Might want to put more emphasis on the front brake.

My stock Dunlop D407 on my 09 train went for a solid 13K with some tread to spare. No burnouts, but I do ride somewhat aggressively. Front tire lasted the same. Swapped both tires at the same time.

I use the back brake a bit too much and I've been riding agressively, but not to excess, and no burnouts. I ride 2-up quite a bit too. Just thought it was wearing a lot faster than my Ultra did.

Before I went to a car tire I would get about 5-6k on my 07 Train with the 200 mm wide tire.

Something doesn't sound right if you're only getting 3k miles. Do you brake with just your rear brake most the time? That'll do it.
