Simple physics. When braking with the rear (or front) you are creating friction. More friction more wear.

I must be lucky - I'm just ready to buy a new set at 17,500 miles on the stock Dunlops.

I'm at 5600 on my stocks. I'm starting to look for new. I figure I have about 1000-1500 left Max on the rear. I'm gonna try Metzlers. Does anyone know if their 150 will fit under an 09 Fatboy Front fender?

I have a Road Glide and ride 2 up most of the time. I usually get 8000 on my rear tire and 15,000 on the front. I brake heavy on the front, but try to keep decent tread. It seems to rain on every ride I go on recently.

Thank you. I started a thread on this at the same time. Thanks for the quick response. How did that ride? Did you have any trouble with clearance on the sides of the fender? It cerainly looks good

I'd like to try the Elite 3 the next time around. Only comes in 160mm though and one dealer said it would not fit. I think it would. Anyone know? The stock rear is a 150.

no problem on the sides. less than 1/4 clearance at the front of the fender where the weld rolls under. your front tire will always be clean. rides very smooth but harder to turn. makes a wider turn, got 16k on it

You guys got me thinking, I've been looking at the centerof the tire on D407 200/55R17 the bar and shield is just starting to wear at 5600 miles. There is an actual wear bar about 2 inchs off of the center of the tire, do you wait until the bars on the side show or when the HD emblem wears off?
