This is one that should vary a fair bit...I'm up around 20K miles now and still have the original front pads and they have plenty of life left. I replaced the rear pads when I changed the rear tire 10-12K and I'm due to replace both items again pretty soon.
There's many factors that will dictate wear but in my case the fact that I ride daily in rush hour traffic is the biggest contributor to accelerated wear on the rear pads. I try to put my feet down as little as possible when I'm crawling along in gridlock and I tend to use the rear brake and a little clutch/throttle ballet for slow speed balancing.

maybe you have another 7000 and the dealer is cautious. i engine brake and use the front. 25k on lyndall, ready to change third pair and also the rotor, 50k on rear and still good
