Default Ape install frustration...

So today, I'm bound and determined to get some of this install done on my Fatboy. I'm past the delay's of having to drop the exhaust pipes to get to the transmission cover, buying and installing new exhaust gaskets, and a new circlip. First thing was to wrestle with my V&H's Big Shots Staggered to get them back on (had to take off the foot board, passenger foot peg, and loosen up the foot board mount, but mission accomplished).

Once they're on and tightened down, I removed the tank (major mess draining the gas), take off the controls and front brake handle/reservoir, and remove the stock throttle and idle cables. And then install the new throttle and idle cables. But, something don't look right. Neither cable looks long enough. So I pull them off and measure them. Both are too damn short.

The independent shop where I got all my cables from has ordered +2 cables instead of the +6 that I told him I needed. And of course he closes at 1 o'clock in the afternoon on Saturdays. Hopefully when I talk to him on Monday, it will get straightened out (at no additional cost to me).

Not a wonder why some people would rather drop it off a dealership and let them do it. Wish me luck...

I feel your pain brother. I put HD mini apes on my sportster last winter. Everything was looking great until the clutch cable started leaking at the point where it enters the primary cover. I drained the oil (again) and removed the cable. (it was leaking from the area where the cable covering enters the the crimped/threaded section). I called the company where I ordered it and was told that was a factory issue. I called the factory and was told that was a dealer issue. After a string of expletives, I ordered another cable ($50) and re-installed. No problems since. Good luck.

Thanks Train. Worst part of it is, after 5 minutes over at the Motion Pro website, I got the right part numbers for their +6 Argent cables. Course I'll call them and verify on Monday. But you'd figure an Indy, that deals with parts everyday, would have gotten it right the first time. Maybe I should be ordering their parts for 'em.

Think it's time to find another shop to toss my business to.

Hang in there bro...it happens every time I start a project. I don't have something...a tool or part or both. In the end you will be happy. Apes will give your scoot attitude...you will love them.

Hang in there it will be worth it in the end. I'm not trying to be dick by saying this but, I feel very lucky. I got a package from Hill Counrty and everything was there and all fit.

Hey Man, dealers screw up also so work with someone you like things happen. My horror story is getting stainless spokes installed in the front wheel at the dealer, after several bad sets delivered they ordered from another supplier, took 14 weeks and of course they cut the old spokes taking them out. At 13 weeks the service manager was going to give me a wheel off of another bike to cool me down but the owner flipped an got things straightened out. Come to think about it they haven't touched my bike since.
