As said, vary your speed, try to keep it under 3 grand 1st 500 miles, punch it good every now and again.

From the 2009 owner's manual, page 78, (shortened it a bit)

The sound design, quality materials and workmanship that are built into your new HD will give you optimum performance right from the start.

First 50 miles keep below 4000 RPM and do not lug engine

Up to 500 miles, vary engine speed and avoid operating at any steady RPM for long periods. Engine speed up to 5000 RPM. Wait for engine to be warmed up before doing fast starts Avoid lugging engine by running very low speed in high gear.

So basically just ride the bike like you normally would, just be a bit careful first 50 miles.

Important to pull hard on throttle 2,3, and 4 gear up to 4500-5000 rpm, then back down against compression 4,3, and 2nd gear. Do this maybe 2 or 3 times every 100 miles or so for the first 300 to 500 miles. then change the fluids and ride it like you normally would.

I have broken in a few new bikes. I try to keep off the freeway for at least a few hundred miles. Ride back roads if you can. that will keep you from holding the throttle in one position to long. Change the oil often. I change it out at 50,200,500 and then 1,000 to get the break in crap out of the motor. Don't lug it and twist the throttle often but not to the point of hitting the rev limiter. Keep it under 5k Rpm for a little while.
