Trick New Garage Door Opener Switch (PICS)
#11
I just went to the dealer and told them I wanted a replacement switch for the one on my bike. I just explained that I wanted the switch that toggled the mileage/time/trip etc...there are two parts to it. The switch and the rubber boot that also acts to hold it in place. That rubber boot screws on and off.

I never asked for the number. Just walked into the dealer, showed them the switch on a bike like mine and said I wanted to order one. I was not sure it would work at that time, because the switch needs to be a momentary normally open switch. When it came in I threw a multi-meter on it and checked it and it was the right type. It's a real easy mod.

Maybe this should be moved to the DIY mods thread. There has been some discussion of this mod. there with others who have done it. I recently finished mine and used a extra remote I already had. The switch and boot cost $14 from the dealer and they should be able to look it up for you. I think the hardest part is soldering the wires but even that's not too bad.

Another inexpensive remote idea
This is what I did. Just picked a mini universal remote that is compatible with my garage door opener from the local hardware store. Used good two sided tape to attach it to the fairing beside the cigarette lighter. It is sort of out of site, weather and easily accessible with gloved hand. I can pull it out of the holder if need be.
Guess this won't work so well on a softail!!!!
