That rubber boot screws on and off.

I never asked for the number. Just walked into the dealer, showed them the switch on a bike like mine and said I wanted to order one. I was not sure it would work at that time, because the switch needs to be a momentary normally open switch. When it came in I threw a multi-meter on it and checked it and it was the right type. It's a real easy mod.

Also, how do you keep the remote from rattling around inside the console - velcro?

Nicely done, excellent idea, no more fumbling for the opener!

Switch part number is: 67488-04
Rubber boot number is: 67880-94

If you have a rocker, the part number for the switch is 67584-08, number for boot is same.

I just popped apart my remote - it looks like the hardest part of this mod will be the soldering. You have to solder wires to some *very* small nubs on the back of that switch!

Does it matter which wire on the remote goes to which wire on the new switch?

Maybe this should be moved to the DIY mods thread. There has been some discussion of this mod. there with others who have done it. I recently finished mine and used a extra remote I already had. The switch and boot cost $14 from the dealer and they should be able to look it up for you. I think the hardest part is soldering the wires but even that's not too bad.

Default Another inexpensive remote idea

This is what I did. Just picked a mini universal remote that is compatible with my garage door opener from the local hardware store. Used good two sided tape to attach it to the fairing beside the cigarette lighter. It is sort of out of site, weather and easily accessible with gloved hand. I can pull it out of the holder if need be.

Guess this won't work so well on a softail!!!!

Nice job. I saw this mod in some old posts awhile back, but put it on the back burner. Now I might have to take another look at it since I will have my bars off for a couple days anyway.

Thanks for pics, always helps!
