Walt, I used a 3/8 20 I believe. Since I turned the mount around I need a longer bolt. I'll tell yo for sure tomorrow as I have to go back and get a longer bolt that I can put a nut on the end. I think the one that I used is 2 1/4". Guess I'll get a 2 1/2". I don't avhe the foot pegs on the rear and most likely never will again.
I had the oposite problem, the bolt I got was too long. The Crossbones dosn't have passenger pegs and the bolt they sent with the plate holder was for use with P. Pegs. I had a spare bolt that worked, but for the price they should cover all their bases.
Well, I got a different bolt but have never pout it on. the other bolt threads all the wya through the rear footpeg hole (I don't have rear footpegs) but have not found the need to install it yet.
Is that a folding style ? if so make sure you have it tilted at the right angle or there is a danger it can foul the rear sprocket if it gets knocked . I have mine set so it hits the swing arm 1st..

Don't need to worry about that here, I have a German Motorcycle plate on mine, dam thing is the size of a US car plate. Yeah the dirctions said to mount it with the bottom of the plate parralel to the swing arm, wich I think would hit the sprocket if folded in too far.
