Default 17x6 vs 18x5.5

im looking to put a new set of matching custom wheels on my 2009 night train. the only problem is the ones i like that have a matching rear are all 18x5.5. the stock rear is 17x6. anyone know how changing to the 18x5.5 would effect my bike. make it set higher? not able to run my 200mm tire? not work at all? help me out guys

You can run a 200 on a 5.5" rim no problem. The 18" might sit a tad higher, but probably not enough for you to feel a difference.

Yea everybody does it, but if you look at any manufacturers size chart...A 180 is the widest tire recommended for a 5.5...just FYI

I think most folks will run a 50 profile instead of the stock 55 profile, which will drop the back end a little.

IMO the 180 looks better than the 200 though. At first it looked a little weird but not I like it better.

I have a Metzler guide that says to use a 5.50 rim for the 200/50R18 as well as the 180/55-18. We have been doing this for years and never had an issues.
