Sore butt looking for softer seat
I have an 06 Springer with the Badlander seat. Had my first real run of any distance yesterday and now understand where the term, "rode hard and put away wet" comes from. The big problem is my tailbone becomes the pressure point and is killing my butt, my back and well...you get the picture. I've searched the forums and seems the big references are to either DIY and shave the seat, gel it or whatever. I've seen mixed reviews Corbin seats. Since the wife has no interest in riding, I've seriously considered going to a solo seat. Appreciate any suggestions anyone has on this.

RE: Sore butt looking for softer seat
I'm a big Mustang Seat fan. I'll have one for my SG very soon.
When I got my first Mustang, I was looking for a softer seat too. turns out the problem wasn't softness, but support in the right spots. yes you want it to be soft on the tailbone, but if it's soft all over, you'll just sink untill you run out of cusion and then it's hard again.
Mustang has this figured out. I've had two now - and I'm about to buy my third.

The sales pitch that I got was that vibration is the culprit to a sore butt.
There is a guy in Utah that makes Softbottom seat pads. They use a waffle gel that is patented (not just a slab of gel).
He does a demo where he puts a massager under the gel and a glass of water on top and you don't see any ripples in the water. You can get it in single or double thickness. I bought a single but I think if I was going to start all over I would get a double (like I was advised to).
The pad works great for me. I use it on top of a sundowner seat.
I asked the guy if he would sell me a slab of the stuff so that I could have it sewn into my seat... he didn't respond. It is used for patients that are bedridden and by NASA, in some fashion.
I would highly recommend that you get one.

You can buy the gel pads in Jp and Direct Parts and many other parts houses. They help some, I paid $100 for a nice sheepskin covered on to fit on my Deluxe stock seat and it helped some but not for long trips. The problem is support for the tailbone, I believe and you have to find a seat that has the right padding and tailbone support for you. The Sundowner helped me a lot but the gel pad pushed be up off the back support portion of the seat and made it wose. I have discovered that the Sundowner bucket provides good support so I use it without the gel pad.
I did buy a kidney support fabric belt that I use also and that helps a lot. I am 65 so I think that age has a lot to do with it also. You young tough guys can ride with hardtails and love it! Not me I am a full fleged woosy nowdays and like my comfort.

I hear Corbin's are great, but takes a little time to break in. Good luck.
