Shotgun shock! It's the way to go.

Default Passing lamps install

Hello my HD friends. Question on passing lights for the Lo. I am purchasing the light kit on page 651 of the new catalog Light kit in black. I call my local dealer and they want over 300.00 to install passing lights with a relocation of the turn signals is another 100.00 total of over 400.00 for install of lights. This CANNOT be correct. The light kit is only 199.99. I called twice yep they say it takes hours to do and the relocation of the turn signals is difficult they say. I say BS. Have any of you done the above and can help a brother out please.

Thanks
Griff

Seems a bit high to me. But here is a write up on turn signal relocation I might give you an idea of whats involved. Others here have put the aux lights on and can help more.

Probably the wiring is the hardest part.. unless I'm mistaken, the aux. light kit doesn't take a miracle worker to install.. most of the wires are already accessible. The hard part with the turn signals is changing the wiring through the handlebars.. it's a pain in the butt if you don't just cut the wires and re-solder them, because you have to get them out of those pin housings.

Though if you look at it.. $199.99 for the aux light kit.. so right there:
$400.00 - $199.99 = $200.01..
$200.01 - $100 for the relocation kit (according to your quote and HD's site for a relocation kit with aux lights) = $100.01

call it $65/hour for labor (it's probably higher)
100.01/65 = ~1.5 hours of labor

so truthfully, if you don't feel like doing it yourself.. ~$400 for everything installed really isn't a bad deal

The relocation isn't hard physically. The longest part is turn signal wiring. If you can solder, just tackle it yourself or spend a couple hours learning to solder.plenty of YouTube vids out there to show you how. If you don't want to do that, contact an Indy for a second price.

Well I appreciate the help guys. I was debating on doing it myself. Until the dealer was talking about the new electrical system on the 2011's can be tricky. He said, " I would not try it if it was me" So I was kinda of leary. I usually do all of my own mechanics on vehicles and passed bikes, dirt bikes. Solder is not a big deal. I just did not want to screw up on the process. I was asking them to see if they would and for how much because I ordered Michelin commander 2's and since it would be there for them to put those on I figured kill two birds with one stone. Also I guess because it's my first HD I am nervous to damage my baby.. to be honest.
