Black hd parts or powdercoat
Thinking of doing the satin engine parts in black (e.g. primary; transmssion covers; rocker box covers, etc.). A freind recommended having them powdercoated rather than buying the black parts from HD...said it will save $$ and look just as good. I want to be sure about the "look as good" part.
Thanks for any experiences and advice.

You'd have to call D&D to be sure but yes I think that is the only major difference. I really like my LowCat tho. Its different and follows the swingarm angle perfectly.

A little more work.
So even though it was a GORGEOUS day outside, I figured that I better get on the ball with finishing up the work I wanted to get done on the bike before my R&R was over.
I went about putting the bike on blocks and shims using, of all things, a scissor jack and a block of wood! I had the wife sit on the bike and balance it while I jacked up the rear and then the front and put it on the blocks; pretty simple once I figured out what I wanted to do. I also test fit the sissy bar before I sent it of for PC work (from an '07 FXSTC I bought from a fellow forum member).
Here's my lazy man's way of draining the for oil.
Here is how she sits now until I get the parts back from the PC shop. I bought some RSD gas caps that I am looking to offload; they just don't go well with the look I am trying to achieve and I HATE that I no longer have a fuel gauge and that my low fuel light blinks now all the time! So now I am working on painting the stock ones gloss black; I am not an experienced painter so we will see how it turns out...
Here are the parts I am sending off to be PC'd; the guy quoted me $200 for all of this. I may not have gotten a good deal but I felt it was reasonable and didn't have a problem with it. They should be done in about 5-6 days. I was originally going to do more parts (including the engine covers) but decided that I will wait until next year and send them off to be chromed instead. I think. I may change my mind. Also thinking about changing out the black visor trim rings on the front and rear signals out for some chrome ones. And probably add some chrome brake and clutch lever. And chrome buttons. And then I'll be done for the year. Maybe. We will see.
Also, I didn't take off the aux lights or headlight shroud completely and let me tell you, complete pain in the *** to remove the forks this way! Holy Hell! I was cursing left and right while trying loosen up the pinch bolts on the lower part of the triple tree. I need to invest in some ratcheting wrenches badly! And I stripped out the head of one of the bolts at the bottom of the forks so I had to make a trip to Lowe's to get replacements.
Oh! And don't ever leave your key in the fork lock slot... I got distracted and forgot that I put it in there and then a while later turned the forks... really want to kick myself in the *** now.
Again, long *** post. My bad.

Nice Dave. Glad to see you're getting some things done. Granted, getting the forks off without removing the headlight stuff is a bit hard the first time, but after that it gets easy. I've had mine on and off several times that way now. I just switched mine out for stockers again and had them swapped start to finish in 40 minutes. Nice work getting it off the ground too.

It's gona look sick when it all comes together Dave! If you do decide to do away with the black T/S visors hit me up I will take them off your hands. Went to one of the local dealers over the weekend and they had an 11 lo in silver, I spent quite a bit of time checking it out, it's a good looking bike man.
Bill I noticed you have 255 cams, how did those work out for you? Is the rest of the motor stock?
