I had always read they were set soft from the factory... mine sure were.

Here's a post with instructions for adjustment: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...ml#post7216050

I bought the progressive spanner shown here:http://a.co/5WjA2qk

That makes adjusting it on the sidestand a lot easier because you can use a breaker bar to get them loose if you need to and a ratchet to get a better angle on things. The Harley tool can have clearance issues with the ground.

I yanked mine out and put in progressive 422's. That is, after I had a Shotgun shock come and go, but that's another story.

I got SAS and it's awesome so far. All in one unit. no compressor to mount. no more spanner wrenchin. Only I have to take the whole thing off to change gear oil...but i don't gaf. worth it.

Yeh, I'm still not done yet. I think I'll check those out.

My shotgun shock just showed up the other day. I was planning on installing it Saturday, but the sears jack doesn't leave much room to get to the bolts, much less actually get the factory shocks out and theirs in, so I picked up the Harbor freight lift and spent my time putting that together. Hopefully I'll have time to get it installed next weekend.

I was able to install mine on the Sears jack, but had to place the jack as far forward as I could and it was still close. You damn sure wouldn't want to forego strapping it down.

Yeah, I just didn't see how it was going to work. This was the yellow/silver one... I think the red/black one might have a little more room between the pads, if that's what you have.

Regardless, I had a coupon for Harbor Freight anyway, so I didn't mind picking up the one shotgun recommends for the job.

I never trusted the yellow jack enough to actually work on the bike using only it for support, got this idea from Beasily when he was around. Worked quite well for a lot of years.

When I changed the shocks or removed the back wheel the jack was free to help support and maneuver the rear wheel.

It's one solution

thank you. The way the manual reads it konda implies its set at high load but can be adjusted. I work out of town so the good news is by the time i get back he the spanner you linked will be there and it will get set one way or another
