Default oil on oiltank.

At speeds in excess of 50 mph I am getting oil on the right side of my oil tank and on the top of heat shield of rear exaust at head. No visible oil leak can be seen on the engine. This is engine oil. the inside of air filter cover isn't wash with oil either. No other oil is on engine it stays clean. When i stop it smells like a wood fire burning. I'm using screaming eagle synthic oil. Any Ideas.

Check the rubber seal on your oil dipstick. They can dry out and sometimes need to be replaced. On a trip 2 years ago mine kept coming out of it's housing and oil got everywhere. it didn't help that I had a bit too much oil in the bike either.

They have always had a tendency to put a little oil out of tank where the dipstick goes in but yours does sound excessive. I agree with checking the rubber on the stick and make sure you aren't overfilling.

Also might check the vent line coming off the back of the A/C.

You say the oil filter cover isn't awash in oil but what about the filter itself. Mine will start to spit oil at the tank and the cover will be bone dry. But the filter is a different story.

rear heat shield and oil tank? i had that when i over filled the oil tank. it was blowing out the intake and hitting may leg too. after a while i lost the extra oil. i always check the oil not to over fill it now when changing.

Aa yes the oil cap seem to be the problem. put on a new one an oil went away. Never thought that the oil would blow forwards. I replaced the 0 rings in the pushrod covers, it look like thay were leaking, and that didn't do anything. Tks.

I got a dipstick with a temp gauge and that's what happened. Put the old one back in,,, problem solved. Caused me a lot of worry as we were on a road trip and a long way from home when it started.
