Well instead of going to dealer, mon I took off headed for Fox Creek Leather in VA.. In their store, I tried on many styles.. Bought the Grayson. They are great ppl... They offered me some free range chic eggs...

Baggertail mounts There is no next best... But I didn't like the gap either, there isn't another choice tho...
I got used to it soon enough... You could get the fillers for that
Also look for police bags or the latest iteration of OEM hard bags..
Huge difference being able to open one handed at a stop light easily

"TX I'm gonna go to dealer and sit on one. Hopefully today"....
I sat on deluxe and liked the bars pretty much. iirc, it was 1 1/4"? If not then I would have to get one that is ... I think.. It's a huge commitment just to try, all cables need to change.. Including the cruise control.probly $1k or so idk.. I'm gonna go to bike night at and see if someone has a similar setup...

CycleVisions is the best mount for hard bags on a softail. Scroll up a few pictures for a rear view of mine. One suggestion is to spray the lower screws with some black enamel for a better look at the crossbar.
