The HD luggage rack for my Heritage says to remove the four torx bolts from the sissy bar mount. Question how do you remove that lower bolt? It is too low and close to the fender to get any type of wrench or whatever on it. It also says to loosen but not remove the bolts holding the sideplates to the strut and fender. What happens if I do remove them, if I do remove them then possibly I could swing the back rest up and get at the bolts. Of course, I don't have the right size torx wrench for that large torx bolt. Ok I 've ranted enough, anybody else installed one of these things and have some tips? Thanks

 

I just installed one on mine a few days ago. You need to take the entire unit (side plates and all) off to work on it. The original torx bolts are hard to get out and the new ones go in real easily. Don't risk scratching paint to do it. The fender will move around a little but it won't be a problem.

 

Thanks, GMAN, that's what I thought. I was just concerned when the instructions said "loosen but do not remove" the sideplates. I had visions of the whole rearend of the bike falling off! LOL Thanks.

 

on mine i took out back bolts and loosened front bolts then rotated it forward and then you can get the bottom torx bolt
