Default Header crossover = California model?

My 2001 FLSTCI has a crossover between the headers...does this have something to do with it being a California model (in the VIN, there is a 3 after the engine code). This is the only bike I've seen with a crossover. Was the crossover used on other models?

Also, since I have a cali bike, am I going to run into problems if/when I buy some V&H Big Shots Staggered or Long Shots HS in the very near future? Still debating on how to do the re-map...Power Commander, Fuelpak or just let the dealer do it.

Whatcha think?

Are you sure its not an Evo? Post a pic of the engine.

The engine code is "B" which is 1450cc. I'll try to post a pic here in a little bit. Well, here it is.

Actually that pipe is really called a balance pipe, not a cross over. It was used as a tuning tool to balance the exhaust pulses in the head pipes. It assists in scavangeing the exhaust gasses between the pipes. The later models come with them placed lower down in the system by the mufflers. Usually when converting to SE II's or aftermarket exhaust, the balance pipe is eliminated. It has nothing to do with it being a California bike.
