Another vote for the EVO. One thing that hasn't been mentioned is that it has more low end torque, the TC revs higher.

I had an 07 Train then last year picked up a 99 Train also as a project. Loved the 99 so much I sold the 07. Just as others have said first year of the Train and last year of the Evo, perfect match.
Just find out from the owner if the cam bearing has been replaced or not. If not make that first on your mod list. The stock Ina bearing is crap and needs to be replaced w/ a Torrington. Do a search on here in the engine section and you'll find plenty of horror stories from not replacing them.

99 Softails are great bikes and on the way to becoming classics.

$8500 is that too much for an immaculate low mileage bike?

That's a fair price for this bike in this economy. Two years ago it would have sold for at least $2-3k more.
