X Bones & other springers
#51
I saw another crossbones on this forum with drag handle bars. My dealer said that you can't have a drag handlebar on a crossbones. I think he what he really meant is Harley doesn't sell drag handlebars for a crossbones. My only concern with changing out the bars would be the throttle cable, clutch cable and brake lines. The extra length may be an issue. Where could I get the right lengths? Couldn't the Springer model have similar lengths to work with? Anyone have any thoughts on this?

The stock set up is ok and the most comfortable stock set up you can find for a big guy. As far as the springer it looks great and is cool to see the function of it but the angle or rake can be an issue if you plan to add a windscreen. If your windscreen is more straight vertically you will have some serious wind buffeting. Iam 6'3" and had this problem with my 08 flstsb. With your neck injurys I would deffinatly test ride one try one make sure you get up to highway speed rent if you have too before making a costly mistake.

I'm 6'4" and am one of those that prefer the the stock seat on the cross bones. The extra height gives me a little more leg room, but i needed a little more. I found my self sitting on the back of the seat on longer rides to stretch out my legs. I installed a set of kuryakyn mark IV cruise arms and now its almost perfect. I can ride with my heals on the boards and my feet resting on the cruise arms, much more comfortable.

Springers
I've owned #163 (FXSTC) since '88.
Took some long trips on it when it was newer (Milwaukee WI to Bristol VA).
700 mi/day...not too bad for 'younger bones'. Ride the 'bagger' mostly now.
Still drag it out a couple of times a year to keep the soot blown out.
That ol' EVO is still a better motor that the 'twin-cams'!!

Love my XBONES
I currently have an '09 Fat Bob. I am seriously considering switching to the X Bones. I have only ridden a springer for a few miles at relatively low speed. My main concern is long term and long rides. Are there any special maintenance concerns with the springer? And how well does it ride on the long haul?
Thanks up front for the info.
