X Bones & other springers
#41
I currently have an '09 Fat Bob. I am seriously considering switching to the X Bones. I have only ridden a springer for a few miles at relatively low speed. My main concern is long term and long rides. Are there any special maintenance concerns with the springer? And how well does it ride on the long haul?
Thanks up front for the info.

Fallen Springer, thanks for the props, I didn't settle for it. It's the bike I wanted to begin with. I can't leave the thing alone. I have had it since Sept 09 and it owns my wallet. In a good way though. I was torn between Nightster, SB or Xbones. Someday I'll have em all. While your here, what's the best springer FE I can set up on my mistress?

Ok, my wobble problem is fix now, neck bearing was the solution. For info I have balanced both wheels and change the back tire. The neck bearing was very loose. Now it is ready to roll, thank for the info and the suggestion.
I do not have a X but love my springer, the ride is great and the look is awesome.
Cheers

Harley Service Manual says to use special tool for adjusting neck bearing on Xbones, but most dealers won't sell it as it is supposed for inhouse use only.
you can get it from a couple of online tool shops:

From what I've read other tall guys change the seat and find the ride is much more comfortable for them. A guy over on V-Twin said he went with a Mustang seat, the extensions and was good.
