Gas mileage dropped by 8 mpg

i just got 45 today after running a tank thru it with 5oz berryman b12 injector cleaner.
i think it may have been what one person said the fuel was not atomizing and that could have been a clogged injector. i am running at 12 to 13 to 1 with harley ecm and 02 sensor bypassed. I can tell you i miss the thundermax as the bike has no power or throttle response. I think i will replace the 2 02 sensors as they were used when i bought the thundermax and i have put 32k on them.

this started a little at a time and went from 44 hwy to 25. then the ignition switch caught fire and burned up along with the connector. i replaced the switch and connector and the system relay as i suspect it was over used. the gas mileage is 36 hwy after changing the switch. i have changed the plugs and they had no effect. i removed the thundermax and put in the harley ecm that should burn lean and only gained 2 mpg to 38 mpg. I dont think that was the issue. what else can cause poor mpg? coil? plug wires? fuel injector? low compression? i did change the exhaust too and made no difference. the problem started with the switch issue. city mpg went from 38 mpg to 30 mpg. I know i can loose 2 mpg with low tire pressure.

Just did about a 400 mile road trip. Very disappointed to only get 30-32 mpg. '06 carb. bike. Had to go on reserve at 133 miles. Pushing a big ol' windshield and wind deflectors through the air, going about 75 mph, but still???? Bought the bike with 11k on it. Don't know if it's ever been serviced. Maybe it just needs a tune up.

yep it needs something. a good dyno tune or install a carb kit from this place.

i miss my 54 mpg on the sportster with stage 1 and 67hp. it was not sunoco but i have noticed the difference in mileage with winter and summer formula.

I get around 30 MPG, alone or 2 up, rain or shine, highway at any speed or backroads/city. SE II full system, AN big sucker. I'll pull the carb and rejet it as soon as i wont freeze my nuts off in the garage. I guess I'll have to fugg a little with the mixture screw to get 35-37, but I believe that will be as good as it gets.

It all depends on how you ride, your bike setup (map) etc..
I have a carb'ed bike 01 FXST, stock engine, when the Carbs were running rich.. I would get avg 30MPG, when they were running leaner It moved up to almost 40MPG
Also.. if I ride in the country roads, less traffic lights, speed around 60 (miles per hour), on my 5 gear set I get 45 PG , but in the city drop back to 36.
Passengers drop your air milage, bike weight (ofcourse), so a chopped FXST would be better MPG than a heritage with all the bags and headlights and beefy forks etc..
