Few hundred. Less than a thousand.

My 05' standard is currently for sale - I'm ready to throw down on a new FXST Custom. Just can't take the bigger tire (from last year), bigger engine, 6-speed and the fact that they brought back the custom which is what I wanted a couple years ago to begin with.......Just sucks to have to re-do everyhting again. At least I won't have to buy/install the chrome engine kit this time around. Not seeing very many 05' and 06' models for sale around here, so maybe I'll move mine quickly. The trade in offered was a slap though, so I'll wait her out as long as necessary. With no aftermarket exhaust available yet, I'm in no real hurry to cruise with stock pipes anyway...........

Was talking to my local dealer last night about the 6 speed tranny.

What the had to say discouraged me. He said that the 6 speed is just a close ratio version of the 5 speed. Meaning that the 6th gear isn't like an overdrive. The final ratio of the 6 speed matches the final ratio of the 5 speed.

Take this for what it's worth, they didn't have any mechanical data, just what they had been told.

He's wrong. In the '07s, 6th is an overdrive - and damn near useless until you get >65mph.

My dealer also compared it to a true OD. 65 mph is where I am currently looking for another gear at for my 5 speed, so I am looking forward to it. I have a buddy with an 04' Big Dog chopper. His bike is smoooooth at 80 mph. That's what I am hoping this is like. I'd have a Big Dog myself, but the part selection is very limited and very $$$$ compared to HD even.........

2007 FSXT 6th gear ratio overall = 2.790
2006 FSXT 5th gear ratio overall = 3.150

Difference = 0.360 gear ratio overall, which equates to little difference in final drive RPM, not a true overdrive
I believe your dealer is correct!

The SE 6 speed however, has a final gear ratio overall of 0.89, which is a "true overdrive" 6th gear

I normally shift my '06 FLSCTI to 5th around 50 mph, and when running in 5th, will pull as low as 45 mph. Of course, this is lugging the engine a little, but it will still pull out of it strong. With the difference between '06 and '07 final drive, I imagine you can shift the '07 into 6th near 50 mph, and probably would only notice a difference of 100-200 RPM between the '06 5th gear and the '07 6th gear.

With that, I would rather have a 5 speed and shift less, or the SE 6 speed. Just doesn't seem worth the extra scratch to invest in an '07 6 speed with little difference in final drive.

By the way, gear ratios are available on the "compare specs" page for the '07 bikes on the HD web site and on "specs and pricing" page for the '06 bikes. What's interesting is that, on the '07 "compare specs" page, you cannot do a side by side comparison to the '06 model bikes. Maybe they don't want you to notice that city mpg is down 10 mpg on the '07 bikes, little difference in final drive gear ratio, and a wopping 6 ft. lb. of torque increase on the TC96 over the TC88.

I still say they had to do something differant to the engines to get them in to EPA compliance.
I think thats why they don't have carbs.
And I'll bet it will be a long time before downloads are available. If ever.
Yes I know you can do the race tuner but as much **** as my dealer give me about the race tuner and the fact it would void my warrenty for my 2006
I'll bet they give even more **** for the people who buy the 2007 and go to do a race tuner.
Just my ranting humble opinion.
