The "in city" gas mileage has dropped significantly on the 07 Softails, are they using catalyst exhaust systems?

 

With the possible exception of the CVOs, none of the stock US Harley models have cat converters. I'm just guesiing that the drop in the fuel mileage is more than likely due to the larger displacement of the engine and the move to the 25 degree injectors. I find that if I ride conservatively (keep the engine under 3k at all times), I can get in the low 40s in town. That number drops to the low 30s if I get a little more aggressive with the throttle.

 

Nope... no cats. Like I said, HDs are pretty much equipped with zero emissions stuff. I know even on older metrics they have things that are the equivilant to an air pump, etc... Looks like HD is having no trouble meeting EPA standards...

 

I just purchased an 07 Heritage Softail.

Still breaking it in, but there is a power difference. Not alot.

As for the 6th gear, been in it once, and the RPMS do drop quite a bit.

Should be loads of fun.

I would like to see a dyno compairison between a 06 and an 07 FXST both broken in and in stock form. Anyone seen one of these in a mag yet?

 

I was talking to some of the wrenches at one of our local Harley dealerships. They said power wise there is only a small difference between the two. The 6th gear is supposed to lower the RPM's a good deal at cruising speed though.

 

Right. In fact, 6th is virtually useless at anything less than 65mph. Otherwise, it feels like you're lugging the engine.

 

Yes..it is supposed to lower the RPM and that is a good thing. I'm sure it would be less vibration and get better gas mileage.

 

I'm trading my 04 FXST Saturday and picking up my new 07 FXST. Had a PCIII with Stage 1 air and V&H Big Shot Stags on the 04. We'll see what this new one has after I break her in.********Update**** Picked the bike up and have been riding since Saturday morning. Haven't totally ripped on it yet due to breaking it in, but have rapped it up off the line and I can tell you there is a BUNCH of difference. I thought my 04 ran good, this thing makes you want to just keep rollin on the throttle, great torque, and I love 6th gear. 5th is a little noisy, but 6th you can run 80 at about 2900 rpm (got the speedo/tach combo) and engine has plenty of power to spare. What a machine-new NADA books coming out in Sept. If your gonna trade, get busy because theres going to be a bunch of 88's out there to buy.....Be safe!!!

Well I can tell you that for 07, there will be no cartridges for the pipes.

Yes, you MUST buy a Race Tuner. Currently HD has no pipes for the bike, but are expected to have some better performing SE's out towards the end of the year.

I fully expect to wait to see what the after market brings once it catches up.
