Default my new project...."The bastard"

good afternoon all, here are pics of my new project. its a 2006 fxstbi nightrain. a friend nicknamed it the bastard because it was so bastardized for a newer bike. i figured i would share my journey with you as i bring this poor thing back to life.......
i am assuming the bike was laid down at some point because someone tried to fix the tank. once the body repairs were made, they must not have knew how to take the tins off the bike to paint them. they painted the tank and the rear fender on the bike! There was orange overspray everywhere, so then they tried to cover the overspray up with black paint everywhere. this bike is ugly. i am in the bike for about 5 grand. this will be a fun project. the frame VIN matches the frame sticker (which i had to uncover both from 1/4" of paint) and the engine number all check out. i am excited

HOLY $HIT!!! Good Luck man!!! You have a hell of a job on your hand. When you are done you should definately keep the name though. They F#cked that thing up. What mods are you lookin to do besides bring the body and paint back to life? For $5000 you got a steal if you know how to do everything yourself. You will come out on top! This is definately the place to ask questions.

Man, some goober with a rattlecan really had their way with that bike good. I mean seriously. Needs crisis intervention & post trama therapy. Looks like you are the one to do that -- just keep telling it "you are special" and that there ARE people who CARE...

Seriously, you going to strip and powdercoat the engine as well (primary cover, cylinders, rocker box covers, etc.)? Definitely needs it but likely that would run into some major $$$. I'm asking because I'm interested in the cost of custom powdercoating engine components.

Good luck. Definitely post "AFTER" pics.

im not sure what direction to go with it yet. it is a nightrain, so keeping it dark and sinister would make sense, but then i am thinking that i have this down to the frame, i wonder if i should change it up a bit. i'm still kicking around ideas.........what would you guys do if you had an 06 nightrain down to the frame. i want to have it done in a month or 2 so i dont want to get into too much custom fab stuff. this was an unexpected deal. i traded my 99 EVO softail so now i dont have a running bike.

Ooooo....what fun you are going to have. If it were mine, I'd strip it all down and powdercoat everything black or silver satin. I'd turn it into a rat bobber.

You could paint a devil holding an orange spray paint can on the tank and have "Bastard" in script like they did on those old bombers.
