HD factory Ape kit availble in March

It always boggles my mind that HD doesn't latch on to what the aftermarket shows is popular, and make the models reflect that more closely. I still cannot fathom why they do things like omit chrome (or black when applicable) fork lowers, put plastic guards and such on, use parts bin fenders and pipes, etc. I get that it would cost more, but I don't know many people who bought a HD because they were economical! Maybe 16" apes are the start of better design for moco?
nah...prob not

i'd say those risers are 3-4" and the bars are 12-13"
still cool that MoCo is going this route, but until they start making true 14 and 16 inch bars i dont think it'll catch on.
but wtf do i know?

I still don't see anyone selling these as a complete kit. I added up all the required cables Harley says are needed to put these on my bike, looking them up by part # at Adventure HD -- well over $400 before buying the bars!

I just ordered all of the stuff less the bars and risers for my scoot. Came to about $320 for Barnet cables in stealth, black fittings for my brake line, black banjo bolts and the nicer washers for the brake line. It also includes the gaskets. I extended my wires myself.
I was planning on going with HCC because so many here have had a good experience with them. I tried getting ahold of them for a month with no succes and finally went to my stealer. I wanted 1" diameter bars in black and HCC does not have that on their website.
So... from the stealer:
$120 for my bars
$ 40 for take off Heritage risers
$30 for poly bushings
$320 for every thing else
So, I paid a little more for my stuff then I would have through HCC but I couldn't get ahold of them. I also got a little more stuff then they offer, so it may have come out in the wash.
Edit: added the bushings

I was at my local dealer yesterday and they opened one of these bar kits for me to see, although they weren't supposed to until the 1st. They are 4" risers and 16" bars and really good quality, I looked at the black ones. We measured the bars though and they are barely 16", probably more like 15" in reality. I wish they made them for a Springer front end.

Nothing wrong with what HD is trying to do but I just think they are always a day late and a little off.
IMHO tall apes look better with short risers. They are also more stable with a riser that has a single piece top cover. I would not use 16 inch apes with risers that have individual top covers. It may be ok but I think you would get a lot of flex. I prefer 16 inch Wild One apes on a 1.5 inch riser with single top cover. As far as running wires, it can't be any more simple. Use an air compressor and blow a piece of yard twine through in about an half a second and then simply tape the twine to your wires via electrical tape and gently pull them through. Make sure to double check all openings on the bars first for rough edges and de-burr as necessary. Trial fit your bars and measure how much additional cable length you need and order the cables. Also, measure how much additional wire length you need. Do the job yourself and learn something about your scoot. JMHO...
