Default Can I powdercoat a full spoke wheel (rims, spokes hubs) without dis-assembly !

Hi guys,

My Mechanic is weary of powder coating the complete wheel saying that the spokes flex and that may peek the PC.

I was wondering, it would save me 5 to 6 hours of labor in truing/lacing the weel and I like the black spoke look.

I was wondering if anyone done that, if so, anything I should keep in mind ?

Regards

A.

I wouldn't do it. You wouldn't be able to turn your spoke nuts after without ruining the whole job. Randy at Cycle visions can respoke a wheel real quick. I was looking through the shop one day and watched him do it faster then I have ever seen. I am talking minutes not hours. I would take it down and do it right if I were you.

i had it done to my rim on my nitetrain when i first bought the bike and had no issues with the rim or anything
make sure the rim is trued before you do it.
its durable and unless your slammin curbs or potholes it should not have to be trued.

As for Randy, I know him he does good work; i was looked at havin another set of rims done and respoked with stainless spokes and it was roughly $900 for the front and rear rim to be powdercoated new spokes purchased and then respoked and true the rim.

Why don't you ask the Powder Pro....He's a sponsor on this forum and should be able to give you advice.

As stated make sure all your spokes are tight and trued. If so it should last you untill you absolutely have to tighten your spokes. Check out Detroit Wheelz he did mine for 200 bucks. Thats the complete front rim but, I got to keep my old complete rim. He uses new rims nipples and bearings and reuses spokes and hubs.
