What a great question! I figured I'd look into it and what I discovered is perplexing. Yes, the current 44048-83A is the non-o'ring type. H-D has recently obsoleted it and went BACK to 44048-83!!

I ordered 5 of the 44048-83 just to see what they look like but you're right, the parts book calls for a bleeder that IS NOT correct!!

Sadly, they screwed up the fork leg bolt on 2010 Dynas too. Sold a customer the bolt that was called for and it's wrong.

There must be quite a process in getting engineering specs to the parts book publishers because they can't seem to get it right.

I'll follow up when the other bleeders arrive.

Glad to have given you a sense of restored sanity.

I can't wait for the **** storm in the years ahead when customers with non-o'ring bleeders are sold the o'ring type. Here we go again.

I have to claim ignorance here. I had no idea that H-D had even changed the design. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

Well, the 44048-83 version showed up today. Same as the -83A in damned near every aspect. It might be something as silly as a change of vendor.

I still have no idea what the part number is for the new, current production o'ring type. I'll be placing a call to H-D tech Services tomorrow.

Stay tuned...

I went through the same thing a couple months ago without any resolution. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we may be close...

I'm not sure if this will help you or not, but here's what the factory bleed screw looks like off my '09. I replaced them a couple weeks ago with Speed Bleeders.

Could the ones on your bike now have been replaced by someone before you?

I read in the service manual that the o-rings on the bleeders were there to help them bleed the brakes on the assembly line and that they could be discarded.
