Default Crack Pipes for 09 NT

Ive been looking at the Crack Pipes exhaust for my NT. They have no baffels, besides it being loud, what draw backs would there be? Ive heard something about valves going bad, is this true? Anyone run these on their bikes or know anyone who has?
Thanks for the info!

my buddy has those pipes on his 06 night train. he has had absolutly no problem with them what so ever. he did however HAVE to get a re-map going from stock exhaust. they are very loud and crackly. nobody will want to ride next to you on your right side cause the exhaust will shoot out directly on them. very beautiful pipes. if he didnt buy them, i would have.

HP may be a drawback...they're not very long nor are they "stepped", so I wouldn't expect great dyno results. I ran something similiar (Martin Bros. Money Shots) and lost 7-9 HP. I since switched to Martin Bros. WTF's they're longer and "stepped" 3x (1.75, 2 & 2.25 inches) great look, sound and no HP loss. Actually my Indy got more HP from these than V&H Long...he was a bit suprised.

Won't take long for U to have Permanent ear damage.
Ur going to be in the 105-110 dB's levels..and with that short of pipe they will be directly even with Ur right ear..I would for sure wear some plugs of some time....

TABLE G-16 - PERMISSIBLE NOISE EXPOSURES (1)
__________________________________________________ ____________

Duration per day, hours | Sound level dBA slow response
____________________________|_____________________ ____________

8...........................| 90
6...........................| 92
4...........................| 95

1/2 ........................| 110
1/4 or less................| 115
____________________________|_____________________ ___________
Footnote(1) When the daily noise exposure is composed of two or
more periods of noise exposure of different levels, their combined
effect should be considered, rather than the individual effect of
each. If the sum of the following fractions: C(1)/T(1) + C(2)/T(2)
C(n)/T(n) exceeds unity, then, the mixed exposure should be
considered to exceed the limit value. Cn indicates the total time of
exposure at a specified noise level, and Tn indicates the total time
of exposure permitted at that level. Exposure to impulsive or impact
noise should not exceed 140 dB peak sound pressure level.

It is possible for you valves to burn out running this style of pipes, but I hve never seen it happen. A freind of mine has had wide open fishtails on his bike for 5 years no issues. You can also get some BCC baffles to put in the pipes for added low end torque as that is the main problem with wide open drag pipes. Lack of low end.
