What is market value on this bike?

Many thanks for the replies
That pretty much confirms my thoughts. Having just bought a new Wide Glide last month I told him up front that I really did not need it now so that gave me an easy out without hurting his feelings but I wanted to make sure I was right with my thinking.
I would agree that $10K is about right.

I agree, way too hi! 10k maybe 11k but thats about it. Good luck, i hate wheelin and dealin with friends!
$17k seems way too high. Maybe he hasn't paid attention to plummeting prices over the last 3-4 years. If it is a nostalgia I personally might give a little extra for it but I think you are offering a good price at $12k and if he really needs to sell it I'd offer maybe $10,500.
Is that oil cooler made of platinum???

The problem sometimes, is people spend all this money on aftermarket modifications and think that it adds value to the bike. In all reality the mods only make your bike more appealing then the next, but the prices are still the same. 30k invested means bike looks nicer than the stock one, but the price is still 10k. Maybe tell hime to take off some of the stuff you dont like and sell it. Help recoupe some of the money.

Is anyone else suprised how often this sort of thing happens? There is always one guy out there that spends $30K on his bike and then thinks it is worth every bit of it.
Everyone expects the mods on a used bike they are buying but no one is gonna pay for them. I had a Sportster that I "invested" $14K into and sold it $5500. Wow, I am as good as an investment banker these days. I must be in the wrong business.
