Default Screamin' Eagle II with or without crossover

I have two sets of Screamin' Eagle II. The ones on my 2002 heritage DON'T have a crossover and the other set DO have a crossover pipe. Is one better then the other set? One set perform or sound better? Why is there two types?

The ones without the crossovers fit deluxe/fatboys , with fit softail custom /nightrain etc. Its not what their like or sound , its what they fit .

Some time back I remember watching a Bike program on T.V. There was a segment taped from Bartels H.D. where they tested, if memory serves me right, 10 different exhaust systems on a stock Harley, each time the bike was run on a Dyno and checked for Horsepower, Torque, and Dbs. (noise)....Any of the pipes that were 2 into 1 or the pipes that had a crossover produced either more power or more torque. Now get this the stock exhaust produced more H.P. and Torque with the least amount of noise

The Set that has a cross-over visible is directed to Fat Boy and Softail Deuce model which has the shotgun style ppipes....

The other set WITHOUT the crossover are for models with shorty dual pipes such as Heritage Softail Classic, Softail STD, Night Train, Springer Softail

I just put SEII's on my '02 Heritage (no crossover) and I love 'em.

I've heard the same as Grey Biker says above. I have the cross-over on my V&H Big Shot Staggered...great performance and mellow sound on my Fat Boy with 95ci kit / 251 midrange cam / and HD-Mikuni carb. I run forcing cones at the head for some back pressure in lieu of baffles in the pipes.

As I did my homework while looking at exhaust, I read repeatedly that the best performance you could expect would be from 2 into 1 setups (like you see at bikes at the track) because they allow max exhaust. The next best thing then are the pipes that have the croosover and allow exhast gases to approximate the 2 into 1 effect. I figured if that's how the horsepower hunger mechanics at the track get it done--- give me the ones with the crossover.

By 2002 heritage came with SE2 with out the crossover. Today I put on a different set that HAS the crossover. They look the same, but the ones with the crossover sound a little quietier and a little deeper. I don't really notice any difference in performance. I like the sound better and so does my crazy neighbor, so i'll keep the ones with the crossover on.
