Default W1 508 bars on 2007 heritage

I have standard bars on my heritage and was thinking about fitting w1 508 bars and would be grateful to hear from anybody who has done this. I am 5'8''and get a bit of back pain after a while on the bike and feel the pullback on the 508 bars would let me sit with my back straighter. Do standard cables and brake line fit or do you require to fit longer. Grateful for any advice.

The Heritage 'mini ape's' are more adjustable than most. A little movement makes a lot of difference at the grips.

Rather than the 508s I would suggest the 518s. They have the same benefits as the 508s but much less of the "wheelbarrow effect." You can use the stock cables and brake lines -- but why would you? Perfect opportunity to switch to stainless cables. You need to run the wires through the bars, as there's no way to attack a wire bundle externally that would look acceptable. And yes, I have the 518s on my '06 Heritage and couldn't be happier. Very comfortable.

Check the Wild One website. Better still, give them a call. They're very helpful.

Have my Heritage bars pulled back which gives me about 13" of pb and could still use a bit more. Not really happy with the way it looks either.

I've done a bit (alot) of research on bars and had considered the 508s. First thing I noticed was the extreme angle of the grips which looks like it could be uncomfortable for long rides. Think Wheelbarrow.

Wife also needs more pb on her Deluxe so I recently picked up a set of 518s @ a good price. Less wheelbarrow than the 508s but wider. Haven't had a chance to put them on yet but wife says they seem perfect for her. We'll just have to wait and see.

Thinking they might work for me too. Might have to put some higher risers (maybe 2"pb Deluxe risers) on to maintain the rise I like. With the Del. risers the 518s would give me a total of 16" pb. If that's too much, plan B would be to either move to a straight riser or drop back to the 504s for a total of 14.5" of pb.

Another bar I have looked at is the 517. Not sure if the reported 14.5" pb is true pb measured with the bars in the same plane as the forks or a fudged # by rotating the bars back like I do with my stock Hertitage bars. Chubby apparently measures the stock Heritage bars in the same way because they spec them at 13" of pb.

One other thing. I had a chance to sit on a Heritage with 12" chubby apes (502s) and was surprised at how comfortable they were. Especially the wrist angle. They don't have as much pb as the other bars but they felt good. Go figure. I may give them a second look.

So just throwing out the results of my research for what it's worth.

BTW, As I recall from my research the 508s should go on the Heritage w/o making any changes to your cables/wires. I can't remember who posted that info but you should be able to find it with a search.

Good luck.

I put 508's on my Deluxe with 1 1/2 risers. Based on the posts of the "wheelbarrow effect," I was concerned. After about 20 minutes, I never noticed any difference. I love the bars and have done many long rides since and very pleased with the 508's. The pullback is great. Also, didn't need to replace any cables.

Wife's Deluxe doesn't seem to have much slack in her cables so it's interesting that you were able to put the 508s on your's w/o new cables. If that's the case the OP shouldn't have any problem on a Heritage.
