Default BIG decision to make fellas...

First off.. Merry Christmas to all! Hope everyone is enjoying their holiday.

Secondly...

The little lady (Santa), gave me a little card this morning that just said "16 or 18"...

Obviously referring to APES!!!! She wants to get the 1 1/4 complete package from HCC but wasnt sure what size. So Ive decided to recruit a little help.

They are going on my 09 Fat Boy. Im 6'1" in riding boots. Whats everyones thoughts on 16s or 18s? Thanks in advance

I'm 5' 8"... always run 16's , but there starting to seem short now ... I might go with the 18's , not sure yet , guess I'm just use to the 16's , and I have no problem with reach , my arms are comfy , elbows bent just a lil ... I dont like the straight out position. At your height , I would go with the 18's. .... btw , Merry Christmas !

Grab a broomstick and hold it where your arms are comfy. Have your girl measure the height if the broomstick and that's what you want.

good idea with the broom stick. it also, as they said in the cowboy days, how high you ride in the saddle and how long your arms are. but id try the broom stick method.

I am glad I went 18's. I am 5'9, not much of a reach. When I mounted them forward they are high but pull them closer and they are about two inches above my shoulders. If you go 16's, you can always put on taller risers. I'd go BIG, your name is "BallsOut."

Ive heard of the broom stick method and have spent some time in the garage trying to get a good feel for what would be comfortable. Ive also been hawking the "Ape ****" thread, (all 37 pages of it) to see what others are saying. The comment I see the most is... " I shoulda gone with the 18s from the beginning."

Im assuming a 2" riser with 16s would get me to about where 18s should be? Another question that I thought of is...

Since the bars reduce down to 1" can the stock risers and clamps be used?

MMMMMMM

If the stock bars are 1" you will be able to use the stock risers. I have a buddy that put 18's on with two inch risers to get up with all his buddies that have 20's. I like the look with the risers covered and a headlight nacelle.
