RE: Alaskan Fatboy
You know, twenty years ago the hard core rider might have been able to squeeze in five months - then it was all snow and freezing temps.
Now - thanks to global warming - it's all changed!
I was born and raised here, and as a kid there was snow by mid Aug or Sept, freezing temps by Oct, and no sign of spring until May.
Now - we're bereaking the bikes out in early April - and some years there's no snow until late Nov or even Dec.

The other day I was at the dealer's and he's got old photo's of area rider's from the 30's 40's and 50's all over the place and he's got 5 or 6 pic's of diffrent rider's that rode all through the winter just as a matter of daily life. They were running full chains front and back with what looked like 1/2" studs on plates across the face of the tire conecting the chains on each side of the tire and enough canvas on the front of the bikes to sail a ship, these pic's were from 30's and early 40's and if there is one thing you can say about them they were some tuff buggers. I did that all winter ride one year when all I had for transportation was the bike and Ill say one thing about it THAT SURE AS HELL AINT GONA HAPPEN AGAIN, the summer here in Wisconsin can be a pain some times but during the winter when you have to be somewere and all youve got is the bike and it's either 15deg.below or snowing it has a way of just sucking the fun out of the whole day
