1996 FXSTC Forks info please.
Hi People,
I'm from the UK and I've got a 1996 Softail Custom and I'm looking for a bit of info if you'd help out please.
I'm stripping the front end to replace the fork tubes. Both forks needed a bit of persuasion to remove from the yokes and now they're out, I can't get the forks plugs out.
Any ideas? Is it me being stupid and are they a left hand thread? It doesn't say so in the Clymer manual.... I just can't get them released. The bike is in mint condition. The forks have been on the bike for 14 years, the plugs might be seized a bit? The allen bolt in the bottom one of the sliders is super tight too...
It looks like a dealer job and the associated cost which I'm trying to avoid.
Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
Got the new fork assemblies (internals...make DBI, includes all seals and bushes etc) from BK Rider on Ebay for not a lot of dosh. Great service and I'd recommend them.
Cheers and thanks for any info posted.
Olias.
