Damn Tins, Whats up with the 08's?
Hey Guy's,
I've been going nuts trying to figure out if a 2008 Night train Tank will fit my 2006 Softail Standard CARB bike. I have been doing alot of footwork, but no one seems to know the answer. I realize that the 06 and 08's have different mounting brackets mounted on the inside of the tank for the fuel pump. But my carbed bike has no fuel pump. So heres my question does the fuel sender unit just hang off the top of the removable plate on the top of the tank?, or does it somehow attach to the bracket on the tank that holds the fuel pump? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, Thanks dc4stroke. Does anyone know if the 04-06 carb bikes utilize some type of bracket from the fuel level sender unit like the 08's do? I think if the fuel level sender just hangs in the tank from the top plate and does not attach to the hump by some type of bracket the new 08 tank might work.

on the pre 08 tanks, the only thing that hangs off the cover is the pump itself, the fuel sending unit goes attached to a bracket on the side of the frame hump. The bracket is tach welded to the hump. the floater (fuel sending unit) has a plastic tab that locks into the bracket.
on the 08 models, the bracket is dual purpose and it holds the fuel sending unit on the side and holds the fuel pump on the top side. The cap no longer holds anything.

I too switched tanks from an '06 to my '00. Your best bet is to use the bikes odometer and just forget about hooking the sending unit up. I took the fuel tank plate and removed the pump and sending unit all together. Make sure you replace the 10 little screws that hold the plate to the tank. They have an o-ring for sealing built on to the screw.
Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

I actually thought about doing that. From what I hear the fuel gauges are not to accurate anyways. Hey Screamineagle 22 do you know if it would be possible to use an 08 fuel level sending unit and top plate and plus them into my 06 gas gauge? Or do you think I would have to replace gauge also?
