Here ya go. I posted some pics here of what I did to fix this problem.

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/softa...fi-models.html

As for using the same lid. Yes it can be used, although the lid might have a different part # it uses the same gasket. The reason its a different part # is because the 06 piece has a tab that holds the pump and the 08 part # doesnt have the tab because everything is held by the bracket that is welded inside the tank.

Tip: Regardless of which way you end up going, make sure you replace the 10 screws that hold that cover in place. they have a small o ring that keeps it from leaking.

Good luck ...

SE22 you did an awesome job of switching that bracket out! It just seems that it is alot of work for a gauge that is known not to be very reliable at all. I am so used to using my odometer on my bikes, that I also use it on all of my vehicles.

Thanks man, I guess I just did it because the bike is an 08 with less than 1500 miles on it, I wanted to keep it as OE as possible.

If it stops working, then oh well, I use my odometer also.

Ok guys heres an update of what I plan to do. I have purchased the tank and fender set off of a 08 night train in black pearl. What I am going to do is mount the 08 tank with the 06 top plate, but I will leave the fuel sender unit out. I also plan to purchased a pop-up flush mount gas cap along with a dummy matching cap for the fuel gauge. I will remove the gauge also and use my odometer to know when its time to fill up. I will post some pictures of the bike when it is finished. I also have a set of 06/07 tins in vivid black in excellent shape if anyone is interested.

Ok Boys,
Broke down and installed 08 peral black tins on the bike. Looks sweet as hell. Everything lined up. I ended up removing the fuel gauge and replacing it with a set of ness chrome pointed gas caps and dummy cap for the fuel gauge. I will have some pictures posted as soon as I have my new rear wheel installed. Happy Holidays
