Default Freight Train Headlight

Just a silly question. I love the freight train headlight and was looking to get one. But I want it in black not chrome. Anyone have any ideas?

Is powder coating an option?

HD has the nacelle in black. I do believe it is just for the touring line. I'm sure it can be worked to fit most models. Just check out the HD P&A online. You don't mention what model you have, oh and welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

Take some fine steel wool and rough up the surface then clean it well with mineral spirts or alcohol. Then a can self etching primer make sure it self etching. Use thin coats of what ever color black your looking at.

Have fun and its easy!!!

Good luck!

Default Thanks

As of now I have nothing motorcycle wise. I saw a Fat Boy Lo and fell in love. (this after years of rebeling against my dad by not liking Harleys) When I talked to the dealer he gave me a catalog. And there is a partial picture of the Fat Boy Darkside. Looks like I will buy a bike and start changing it. Just like my old man.

The black freight train light is actually pictured on a few of the soft tails in the 2011 parts catalog. I have been through it twice and do not see it listed as a part for them.

Edit: found it in the touring section online right after I posted:

The touring light will not fit a softail. But, Bad Dad makes a paintable nacelle that is actually a bit longer than the Harley one and you can have it painted black. If you are going to do it, do it right so it will look nice forever.
Check out this page and click on the pics.

+1 for the powder coating method. Will last a long time, and look really good in the process! Let us know what you decide.
