My dad has a 97 fxstc with the buck horn style bars. he has been saying for years that he wants to get the new style bars that come stock on the new softail custom. well I think I might get them for him for xmas. anyone know what i'll need for the swap? I would think the cables should be fine? will the newer bars fit or are they bigger in dia ?
Very easy swap, I did this to my FXST. It makes the bike more comfortable to ride. You just need the bars and risers. My standard cable were just about long enough.
Once he has swapped he will never go back to the standard bars
Yea this should be no prob for you me and my buddie just changed out a set of beach bars on a t-sport to a set of 12" t-bars lol the cables were just alittle to short but thats a big change!!!! You will be fine!!!!!!
So, the bars are bigger in dia thus the reason for the new risers? is there a aftermaket bar that is similiar and is the same dia as the older bars. anyone know the 97 fxstc bar dia ? 7/8 if i had to guess.
Hey man, my 07 standard is torn apart right now. I did the bars just like a custom. I am putting on shorter risers and taller bars and have those other bars and risers just set aside. I was going to put them on ebay. The risers are around a 4" or so with a little pull back, and the bars are 10" mini apes. Theyre in great condition. you would have everything you need except for the bolts coming up through the bottom of the risers (should be able to use his). Top clamp, bolts etc are all there. May want to get him a set of cheap poly bushings though, prevent that bar sway. I got mine from Hill Country Customs for 8 bucks. Someone correct me if my risers would not work for a 97. They are 1" bars and risers.

cool, their not goin anywhere. They are the stock risers from a 2007 standard. Bars are 10"mini apes. You can see pics on my profile. - their chrome, my sig below was photoshopped.
well, i stopped by the dealer to look at a new custom. they have a very low riser maybe 1" or so. my dads 97 has about a 4" riser. also I would have to replace the metal brake line. so to copy the new custom i need a 1" riser, bars, and brake line. does that sound right?
