Okay, here's the straight story for getting the pad off the sissy bar. There is no double sided tape. The concho is held on with two clips. The only way to get it off is to gently pry on both sides until the clips give. I used a brake adjusting tool which is wide enough to spread the pressure but narrow enough to get under the concho. I will use double sided 3M tape when I go back together and will try to get the clips to hold as well. The concho is pretty sturdy, so the risk of damage is small as long as you apply pressure to both sides.

I didn't take the concho or leather piece off of the bar. I just removed the two screws on the little bar on the back, spun the whole pad counter clockwise and it came right off. Put the new pad back on the same way. It tightened up just fine and put the bar and screws back on. Didn't have to disturb anything on the back of the bar. I removed my wide pad and replaced it with a smaller one from a lowrider. Looks a lot better and my T-bag fits better on it too. Also lets my helmet sit on top while I'm filling up with gas.
