Would like to improve brake lighting??
Has anyone had experience changing or adding a better brake light system? I have a 97 Heritage Classic and know HD has a kit that can change out the rear turn signals to red and they would act as stop signals. I'm reluctant to change away from the yellow lenses. Has anyone had a good experince changing the actuial rear brake light to some sort of LED system? I'm looking ofr a do-it-yourself option or opinions on the HD change out kit. Thanks to all.

I have a bagger, but the situation is the same. I have changed the t/s lenses to red and added the brake kit. I also have a strip of LEDs on the lic plate frame which are runninglites/brakes.
You can never have too much lighting.
I actually like the red lenses better that the amber.

Mitch,
I have the same year classic ......great bike. I just ordered the Kuryakan set from Zanoti's.
KU-4889 and KU-4967. Best deal out there. Should have them for the weekend. Almost getting rear-ended last weekend made me a believer.
I considered the HD kit but after discussing with a few riders that are using it I decided on the LED system. The HD kit changes the rear TS lenses to red and allows them to work with the brake. The complaint I heard the most was the difference between brake/running/TS was small enough to be confusing .... easy to miss a turn signal when the brake is applied.
The KU's show an amber arrow that is brighter than the stock TS. For my money more light in the rear, using both red and yellow, brightness and pulsating break light are big pluses over the HD system.
$210.00 out the door at Zanotti's for both LED blue dot brake and LED turn signals.

RE: Would like to improve brake lighting??
Bought my wife a used '99 Road King and it had the HD stop conversion kit already installed. It lights her up like a Christmas tree. I like it. When I ride behind her I see the turn signal fine.
A friend put LEDs and the stop kit on his VRod and it does the same thing but brighter. He said it was easy to install.
I am thinking of putting the LEDs on her bike and really making it annoying so people see her.
Dennis Kirk (hope it is OK to put vendors in here) has some Biketronics LED Bulb Upgrade kit for your bike and year. I haven't tried it yet, but thinking about it for my bike and my wife's bikes.
I think either way you go is good.
